Olympiad (English spelling)

Olympiad (English spelling)
Olympic calendar. In ancient Greece, the Olympic Games (ancient Olympic Games) were held every four years, and each four-year period was called an Olympiad. This name is said to have been created around the 8th century BCE. The modern Olympic Games adopted this tradition, calling each four-year period an Olympiad, and took 1896, the year of the first Olympic Games in Athens, as the starting point. The Olympic Games are held in the first year of each Olympiad. The Olympic Charter stipulates that the Olympic Games consist of the Games of the Olympiad and the Winter Olympic Games, with the Games of the Olympiad referring to the Summer Olympics.
