This pottery is produced in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. Its origins date back to the early Edo period, when the fifth lord of the Kaga domain, Maeda Tsunanori, invited the Urasenke tea ceremony master Senso Soshitsu (Sen Soshitsu) from Kyoto to Japan. The potter, Chozaemon I, who accompanied him, began making tea bowls and other items using clay from Ohi Village on the outskirts of Kanazawa. 石川県金沢市で生産される焼き物。江戸時代初期に加賀藩の5代藩主・前田綱紀が京都から裏千家の茶道家・仙叟宗室（千宗室）を招聘した際に同道した陶工・初代長左衞門が、金沢郊外の大樋村の土で茶碗などの制作を始めたのが起源。
