...In the Middle Ages, it was also called Takushima, and in the Izumo no Kuni Fudoki it is written as Takoshima, and it is said that it got its name because an octopus that lived in Kizuki Misaki in Izumo County was caught by the Ame no Hahawashi and flew down to land here.
