A former town in Kamikita-gun, occupying the northern part of Sanbongihara and Lake Ogawara in eastern Aomori Prefecture. It was famous for horse breeding in the past. It produces rice, Chinese yam, and tobacco leaves. The Tohoku Main Line runs through it. It was incorporated into Tohoku-cho in March 2005. Area: 119.48 km2 . Population: 10,188 (2003).
