...Hanji is said to have been a dissolute young man, but he became a disciple of the second Takeda Izumo (Gaki) and became a playwright for the Takemotoza, and he took the surname of Chikamatsu, as he admired him. His first work, En no Gyoja Omine Sakura (Ritsaku Izumo), written in 1751 (1st year of the Horeki era), was the basis for Omo no Seyama Onna Teikin, and the ideas and style of Hanji's later works are evident. From then on, during the first half of the Horeki era (1751-64), he was listed as a collaborator on new Takemotoza works, alongside such predecessors as Takeda Izumo, Miyoshi Shōraku, and Yoshida Kanshi, and in 1757 (7th year of the Horeki era), he again distinguished himself with Mukashi Otoko Kasugano no Komachi, which he completed posthumously, and in the second half of the Horeki era, the Takemotoza works were strongly influenced by Hanji.... *Some of the terminology used in reference to "En no Gyoja Omine Sakura" is listed below.
