Treaty of Erzurum

...In the second half of the 10th century, the centralized system of the Abbasid Caliphate collapsed, and Kurdish regional governments were established briefly under the Hasanwayh dynasty in 960-961 and the Marwanid dynasty in 983, but they were short-lived due to the invasion of the Seljuks. In the 16th century, Kurdistan became a battlefield between the Ottomans and the Safavids, but the Treaty of Erzurum in 1639 incorporated the western two-thirds of the region into the Ottoman Empire and the eastern one-third into the Safavids. Seven semi-autonomous principalities were established under the rule of both dynasties, but between 1837 and 1857, all of them were abolished as a result of centralization policies. ...
