…The inscription on the old bell of Saido-ji Temple from 1396 (Oei 3) reads, "Saido-ji Temple, Gotsu Village, Tamago, Abu County, Choshu," and in the Middle Ages, it was called Gotsu Village in Tamago. The "Bocho Fudoku Chushin-an" tells us that Ezaki was called "Gotsu no Minato" in the old days, and prospered as a port. Gotsu was an important port for shipping rice from the 18 districts of Abu to Wakasa Province. …

…The town faces the Sea of Japan to the north, and the Tamagawa River flows north through the center of the town. Ezaki, the central settlement facing the Sea of Japan, is a good natural harbor and has long flourished as a distribution center for goods. It was known as Gotsu no Minato, and was a port town from which rice from the 18 villages of Abu County was shipped to Wakasa Province. In addition to rice farming, chestnut, peach, and pear cultivation, as well as pig and chicken farming, are also thriving. …
