…Coaxial cables have a structure that makes it difficult for electromagnetic waves to leak out (see figure), and are therefore capable of transmitting high frequencies of several hundred MHz, making them widely used as broadband transmission lines for telephone lines and cable television lines. Since the theory of coaxial transmission lines was published by L. Espenshied and others from the United States in 1934, balanced cables have attracted attention. Research on balanced cables began in Japan in 1937, and the C-4M system (960 telephone channels), which used a 9.5 mm standard coaxial cable, was first introduced in 1956 as a large-capacity carrier multiplexing system. …
