...steel used for functional parts of machines that require strength. The cheapest is ordinary carbon steel, also known as SC material, followed by chromium-molybdenum steel (SCM material) with chromium and molybdenum added, and nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel (SNCM material) with nickel added for toughness. These are called case-hardening steels, and the main alloying elements are chromium, molybdenum, and nickel.
