Liquid pathology theory

...In other words, they tried to explain the cause of disease in terms of constitution. Hippocrates, born in the middle of the 5th century BCE, and Galen, from the 2nd century, believed that the factors that make up constitution were bodily fluids, and advocated the humoral pathology theory, which held that disease was caused by a disturbance in the mixture of bodily fluids. In contrast, Asklepiades (124-60 BCE) and others advocated the solid pathology theory, which held that the human body was made up of atoms, and that disease was caused by abnormalities in atoms.
