After working as a theater student and jazz club singer, he made his debut as a folk singer in 1951, and his third LP, Calypso, released in 1956, and one of the songs on it, Day O, became a big hit. He began appearing in films from 1954, and not only starred in Odds Against Tomorrow (1959), but also produced it. …
