...The area developed after the discovery of the Kosaka Mine in 1861 (Bunkyu 1), and had a population of nearly 30,000 people from the end of the Meiji period to the beginning of the Taisho period. It then declined for a time, but a new black ore deposit was discovered in Uchinotai in 1959, and the area became lively again.
