Uchinotai - Uchinotai

...The area developed after the discovery of the Kosaka Mine in 1861 (Bunkyu 1), and had a population of nearly 30,000 people from the end of the Meiji period to the beginning of the Taisho period. It then declined for a time, but a new black ore deposit was discovered in Uchinotai in 1959, and the area became lively again. There were four mines until the 1980s, but mining was stopped due to the sudden appreciation of the yen and the depletion of ore reserves.
