Impasto (English spelling)
It refers to the buildup of paint on a canvas or panel (→ panel painting), or the unevenness of the paint on the surface, so that the marks of the paintbrush or palette knife are clearly visible. The original meaning is Italian for dough or kneading. (→ Ampertmann)
