A small herbaceous plant in the Saxifragaceae family (APG classification: Saxifragaceae). Almost entirely hairless, the leaves grow opposite each other. It blooms in pale yellow-green in early spring, with four calyx lobes that open obliquely and eight stamens protruding from the outside of the flower. It has no petals. It grows in slightly dark, damp places along streams, and is distributed in the Pacific coast of Honshu from the Kanto region westward, Shikoku, and Kyushu.

ユキノシタ科(APG分類:ユキノシタ科)の小草本。全体ほとんど無毛で、葉は対生する。早春に淡黄緑色の花を開き、萼(がく)裂片は4枚で斜開し、8本の雄しべが花外に突き出る。花弁はない。沢沿いのやや暗い湿った所に生え、関東地方以西の本州の太平洋側、四国、九州に分布する。
