As the Tsukushi no Miyatsuko (provincial governor of Tsukushi), he wielded the greatest influence in northern Kyushu. In the 21st year of the reign of Emperor Keitai (527), when the Imperial Court planned to dispatch forces to the Korean Peninsula, he formed an alliance with Silla (Korea) and started a large-scale rebellion. In November of the 22nd year, he fought against the army of Mononobe no Arakahi, which had been sent by the Imperial Court, and was defeated and killed. His name was also written as Ishii, and he was also called Tsukushi Iwai. Source: Kodansha Digital Japanese Name Dictionary +Plus Information | Legend |
