Immigration Restriction Act

In the second half of the 19th century, the number of Chinese immigrants to the United States increased, and they worked on projects such as the construction of transcontinental railroads.

In the United States, the first immigration restriction act targeting Chinese people was passed in 1882, and the door to immigration for non-whites was gradually closed, until the last remaining immigration, Japanese immigration, was banned in 1924 (Japanese Exclusion Act). Restrictions on immigration for Asians and Africans were seen not only in the United States and Australia, which restricted immigration based on the White Australia Doctrine (1901), but also in Latin American countries.
