Inarimori Tomb - Inarimori Tomb
<br /> This keyhole-shaped tumulus is located in Nagaoka, Nanyo City, Yamagata Prefecture. It is located on a low hill in the plains northeast of the Yonezawa Basin. It was discovered around 1933 (Showa 8). The surrounding area is also the remains of a settlement from around the middle of the Kofun period. Surveying and excavation were carried out from 1977 to 1979 (Showa 52-54), and it became a nationally designated historic site in 1980 (Showa 55). The total length is about 96m, the rear circular mound has a diameter of 62m, a height of about 10m, the front part is 34m long, the front end is 32m wide, and the height is about 5m. The rear circular mound is built in three tiers. Parts of the roofing stones, crushed Hajiki pottery from before the rear circular mound was built, pottery fragments, and human bones have been excavated. Judging from its size, it is thought to be the tomb of a local chief. It is about a 5-minute drive from Akayu Station on the JR Yamagata Shinkansen line.
