…At the age of eight, he entered the Honinbo family as a disciple, and during the Bunkyu era (1861-64) he reached the rank of 7th dan, but due to the issue of the succession of the Honinbo title he traveled around the country. In 1879, he founded the Houensha study group, which split off from the family head and developed into the Shinko Go Association the following year, 1880, and edited and distributed the journal Igo Shinpo.
