Japanese: カササギ(鵲) - カササギ（英語表記）magpie

A passerine bird of the Corvidae family (illustration). Also known as the common crow. Widely distributed throughout the mid-latitudes of Eurasia, North Africa, and the western part of North America. It is found in large numbers in China and the Korean peninsula, but was artificially transplanted to Japan from Korea in the 17th century, and has since bred in the Chikushi Plain in Kyushu. It rarely migrates. A national natural monument. Total length: about 45 cm. The head, chest, back, coverts, and tail are metallic black, while the shoulder feathers, most of the primary flight feathers, belly, and center of the lower back are white.

スズメ目カラス科の鳥（イラスト）。別名カチガラス。ユーラシア大陸の中緯度地帯のほぼ全域，北アフリカ，北アメリカの西部などに広く分布する。中国，朝鮮半島にはたくさん生息しているが，日本には17世紀に朝鮮から人為的に移植され，それ以来，九州の筑紫平野で繁殖している。ほとんど移動はしない。国の天然記念物。全長約45cm。頭，胸，背，雨覆，尾などは金属光沢のある黒色で，肩羽，初列風切の大部分，腹，腰の中央は白い。
