Ötztal Alps

A mountain range in the eastern Alps that stretches from east to west between the Austrian state of Tyrol and the Italian autonomous region of Trentino-Alto Adige. The highest peak is the Wiltspitze (3,774 meters), Austria's second highest peak. To the west is the upper reaches of the Inn River, and to the south is the Venosta Valley. The Ötztal Valley on the eastern Austrian side is a U-shaped valley of the Ötz River, a tributary of the Inn River, and is known as the Ötztal region, with resort towns such as Ötz, Längenfeld, and Selten, making it a good ski resort in winter. In addition to tourism, livestock farming is the main industry, with transhumance practice, and summer pastures called Alms extend above the tree line.

オーストリアのチロール州とイタリアのトレンティーノ・アルト・アディジェ自治州の間に東西に延びるアルプス東部の山脈。最高峰はオーストリア第二の高峰ウィルトシュピッツェ山（3774メートル）。西側はイン川上流、南側はベノスタ谷。東のオーストリア側のエッツタール谷はイン川支流エッツ川の谷でU字谷をなし、エッツ、レンゲンフェルト、ゼルテンなどの保養地があり、エッツタール地方とよばれ、冬は良好なスキー場となる。観光のほか牧畜が主産業で、移牧が行われ、アルムといわれる夏の牧場は森林限界の上にまで広がっている。
