Masaaki Asanuma

...Yamawaki Toyo, a Kyoto government physician who studied under Goto Konzan of the Koiho school, had doubts about the Chinese theory of the internal organs (five internal organs and six bowels). After dissecting animals to confirm the internal structure of living things, he dissected a executed body on February 7, 1754 (the 4th year of the Horeki era) with the permission of the Kyoto Shoshidai, and published his anatomical findings and diagrams five years later in 1759. This book is an appendix that includes several Eastern medical theories and letters of friendship. The anatomical diagrams were based on original drawings by his disciple Asanuma Saei, and only the outlines were carved on woodblocks and printed with ink, while the interior was hand-colored. There were only four diagrams, and the anatomical findings were still childish and crude, but it was full of the spirit of actual verification and pointed out the differences with the Chinese theory of the internal organs, and is noted as a book that marked the beginning of modern Japanese medicine. ...

…古医方派の後藤艮山（こんざん）に学んだ京都の官医山脇東洋が，中国の内景(五臓六腑)説に疑問をもち，動物を解剖して実地に生物の内部構造を確かめたうえで，1754年(宝暦4)閏2月7日に京都所司代の官許を得て刑死体の解剖を行い，5年後の59年にこの解剖所見と解剖図を発表したのが本書で，付録に数編の東洋の医説や交友の書簡を収めている。解剖図は門人の浅沼佐盈（さえい）が描いた原図をもとに，木版で輪郭の線だけを彫って墨刷りし，内部は手彩色された。図はわずか4葉にすぎず，その解剖所見はいまだ幼稚，簡粗であったが，実際に目で確かめた実証精神にあふれ，中国の内景説と違う点を指摘した点で，日本近代医学のあけぼのとなった書として注目される。…
