Aga Buryat National District

…With the abolition of the Far Eastern Republic, the two merged in May 1923 to form the Buryat-Mongol Autonomous Republic. Even after this, the trend for unification with Mongolia remained strong within the republic, but in reality, a total of six districts from the west and east of the republic were transferred to the Russian Republic in 1937, and the Aga-Buryat Ethnic District (area 19,000 km2, population 77,200, 1993; capital Aginskoye) in the Aga River basin, a tributary of the Shilka River, and the Ust-Orda Buryat Ethnic District (22,400 km2, population 135,900, 1993) in the upper reaches of the Angara River were established.
