...In cosmology, the word gravity can refer to the force of gravity, but when it is applied to the Earth, it refers to the combined force of the Earth's gravitational force acting on objects on the Earth and the centrifugal force due to the Earth's rotation (Figure). We feel this gravity as the weight of the object. When discussing the motion of objects that are unrelated to the Earth's rotation, such as artificial satellites, the centrifugal force component is excluded. The strength of gravity acting on a 1 kg object on Earth is approximately 9.8 N and is almost constant.
