Verdinglichung

...One of the basic conceptual devices in K. Marx's later thought. The concept of "Verdinglichung" or "reification" has been used by G. Simmel, H. Rickert, M. Weber, and others independently of Marx. In Marx's case, this concept was long forgotten by his successors, but was revived by G. Lukacs, especially in his work "History and Class Consciousness" (1923), and became famous as Marx's basic conceptual device.
