...A species of the genus Venidium in the Asteraceae family, with about 20 species in South Africa. It is also called Kanzaki Janomegiku (winter-blooming snake's-eye chrysanthemum). It is often cultivated as a cut flower, in a pot, or in a flower bed from winter to spring. It grows to a height of 30-90cm, with leaves that are oblanceolate and deeply pinnately lobed, and both the stems and buds are covered with dense down. The flower head is 6-7cm in diameter, with beautiful orange ray florets around it, and jet black bands at the base of the petals that look like snake's eyes. The tubular flowers at the center of the flower are small, glossy dark purple, and there is one flower per stem. They open during the day and close in the evening. ...
