…Also called monosulfite. A mineral with the chemical composition FeS. Refers to pyrrhotite with an iron to sulfur ratio of almost 1:1. Type 2C pyrrhotite. At temperatures above 140°C, it transforms into type 1C pyrrhotite. Hexagonal crystal system. Color, luster, hardness, cleavage, etc. are the same as pyrrhotite. Specific gravity 4.65. Nonmagnetic. Named after Dominico Troili, who first discovered it in meteorites. It is one of the main constituent minerals of meteorites, and is present in most meteorites at less than a few percent. In chondrites, it surrounds silicate minerals along with metallic iron, and in iron meteorites, it exists as granules in the metallic phase. …
