[Melanocyte-based nevus]
They are blue to black in color. Mongolian spots are gray-blue spots found in the lumbar to sacral regions of newborns and infants, and are visible to the naked eye in more than 90% of Japanese people. They are present at birth, increase in number thereafter, gradually fade, and almost disappear by the age of 5 to 6.
