Peroxybenzoic acid. C 7 H 6 O 3 (138.12). C 6 H 5 COOOH. It can be obtained by decomposing benzoyl peroxide with sodium methoxide at 0°C, or by oxidizing benzoic anhydride with hydrogen peroxide. Colorless crystals. Melting point 41-43°C, boiling point 97-110°C (1.7-2.0 kPa). Soluble in organic solvents such as ether and chloroform. It is a strong oxidizing agent and easily epoxidizes bonds, so it is used in synthetic reactions and double bond quantification. peroxybenzoic acid.C7H6O3(138.12).C6H5COOOH.
