...He also traveled around the former empire under Turkish control as a representative of the Medici family, buying up ancient Greek manuscripts. His work in collecting ancient Greek manuscripts, along with that of his peer Markos Mousouros (c. 1470-1517), is compared to the role played by Poggio Bracciolini in excavating ancient Roman manuscripts. When the Medici family's rule collapsed in 1494, he sought asylum in France, and after visiting France, he lived in Venice for five years from 1503 as the French ambassador, playing an active role as a central figure in Manutius' Neacademia.
