…The Greek peninsula is located in the south of the mainland, in the northeastern part of the Peloponnese, and is bounded to the east and west by the Saronic Gulf and the Arcadian Mountains, and to the north and south by the Argos Gulf and the Corinthian region. It is now a prefecture, with its capital, Nauplion (ancient name Nauplia). During the Mycenaean period, the earliest period of ancient Greek history, it flourished as a politically and culturally advanced region.
