...In 1920, American company Jansen began selling swimwear made from stretchy wool knit. Fashion designers also began to design swimwear, and in 1927 Maria Pezzi introduced a bikini-style swimsuit. However, it was not until 1947, when the bikini style appeared on a beach in the south of France, that it became a sensation.
