...After that, political and cultural contacts with Lannathai became more prominent. In 1546, when the Lannathai dynasty was nearing extinction, King Photisarath (reigned 1520-47) appointed his eldest son Sethathirat as king of the country, and at the same time planned to invade Vietnam via central Thailand, but died suddenly the following year. In 1556, King Sethathirat moved the capital to Vientiane, resisting the growing power of the Burmese Taungoo dynasty, and formed an alliance with the Ayutthaya dynasty of Thailand, sending troops to Thailand and Cambodia.
