...A method of forcing molten metal into a precision metal mold (die) under high pressure to produce castings with high dimensional accuracy and a beautiful casting surface. This name is used in Japan and the United States, while in the UK this method is called pressure die casting, and regular metal mold casting is called gravity die casting. The principle of die casting can be illustrated by the steps shown in the figure: (1) molten metal is guided into a cylinder, (2) it is forced into the mold at high speed and allowed to solidify, and (3) the mold is opened and the product is removed. ...
