Quilate

...Anyway, the traditional British unit of measurement, grain (also called Glen or Gellen in Japan), is literally made up of grain, and the ancient Indian scale, guñja, is also thought to be made up of the seeds of a certain type of bean (one theory is that of the Euglena precatorius). The unit of measurement, carat, which is still used to express the mass of gemstones, comes from the Arabic word quilate and the Spanish word quilate, which is also a type of bean. In Chinese scales, black millet also played a central role.
