Romany

...Gypsies themselves call themselves rom, roma (plural), or romanichel. These words mean "human beings" in their language and have no derogatory connotations, so in recent times it has become common to call Gypsies Roma or Romany, and to call their language Romany. Because they do not settle, they have been called "nomads" by settled people, but this lifestyle was forced upon them by the historical circumstances in which they found themselves, and many of them have settled down.
