...A space laboratory installed in the cargo bay of the Space Shuttle. Spacelab is a nickname created by shortening space laboratory. Along with the Space Shuttle, it is one of the components that make up the American space transportation system (STS), and unlike Skylab, it can be used for various purposes, not for a specific space mission.
