...In Indian epics and Puranas, this mountain is often mentioned as the abode of the god Shiva, together with Lake Manasa at its foot. It is also said to be the palace of Kubera (also called Vaiśravaṇa, Bishamonten), one of the four guardian deities of the world and the ruler of the north. It is often identified with Mount Sumeru in Buddhist cosmology.
