International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources . An international organization that works to conserve natural resources and the environment on a global scale. In addition to publishing the Red Data Book, it investigates properties that are candidates for World Natural Heritage status and reports to the World Heritage Committee. Founded in 1948. Headquarters are in Gland, Switzerland.
