…However, in 1953, during a study of benthic organisms on the shores of Long Island Sound in New England, on the Atlantic coast of North America, a tiny crustacean with a body length of 2-3 mm was found among small animals collected from the muddy bottom at a depth of 9-20 m. As a result of the study, a new species was named and described as Hutchinsoniella macracantha (1955). This tiny crustacean is different from the Branchiopod subclass, which includes the baleen shrimps, which had been considered the most primitive of modern crustaceans, but is very similar to the fossil crustaceans mentioned above, and has characteristics close to the most primitive ancestral form, so a new subclass, the Pectiniidae, was created within the Crustacea class. …
