…In 1894, he was elected to the Dutch Chamber of Deputies again, and from 1901 to 1905, he formed the Kuyper Cabinet, but in the aftermath of the railway strike (1903), he enacted the Law to Suppress Strikes. As a theologian, he criticized the modernism of the Dutch Reformed Church, and founded the Reformed Church (Gereformeerde Kerk) (1886) which separated from the Reformed Church. He tried to establish a Calvinist theology that would respond to the spiritual and social changes of the times. As a leader of the counter-revolutionary party, he took a conservative stance against the Liberal Party and the Labour Party, along with sectarian parties such as the Catholic Party led by Schaapman, and set up a framework for the conflict between sectarian and non-sectarian parties in Dutch politics. …
