Irikiin - Irikiin

Japanese:
Irikiin - Irikiin
The name of the region in the Middle Ages in Satsuma County, Satsuma Province. It is believed that the name of Soin, a development base on the frontier, became the name of the territory. The area is now Iriki-cho, Satsumasendai City, Kagoshima Prefecture. At the end of the Heian period, the area had over 92 cho of rice fields, of which 75 cho were part of the Yorigo-gun of Shimazu Manor (Konoe family territory) that was semi-unexported. The original local lord was the Tomo clan, who served as the benzai-shi (official landlord) of the Tomo clan. In the Kamakura period, the eastern warriors Chiba and Shibuya clans entered the area as land stewards, and the Tomo clan's rule gradually came under pressure. By the end of the 13th century, most of the Shibuya clan had moved to Iriki-in, and branch families established themselves in each village within the inn through a clan-like system of eldest sons, and the eldest son's family called themselves the Iriki-in clan and grew into a local lord.
