[Field Emission]
When a strong electric field is applied to a solid surface, electrons are emitted from the surface. This phenomenon is called field emission. In this process, the electrons pass through the surface barrier, which has been thinned by the application of a high electric field, by the quantum mechanical tunneling effect and are released into the vacuum.
