Wang Yun-go

Japanese: 王雲五 - おううんご

A contemporary Chinese publisher, editor, and linguist. A native of Guangdong Province. After working as a professor at National University and editor of the Peking Democracy Daily, he became secretary to Sun Yat-sen when he became provisional president in 1912, and from 1920 he was director of the editorial and translation department at the Shanghai Commercial Press, becoming its general manager in 1930. He invented the square code character search method and book classification method. The square code was a groundbreaking character search method that has since become the basic search method for Chinese character dictionaries, including in Japan. He edited the Wang Yun Five Great Dictionaries, the Universal Library, the Collection of Series of Books, and the Universal Library, among others. He moved to Taiwan in 1949, and served as Vice Premier of the Executive Yuan of the Nationalist Government from 1958 to 1963.

現代中国の出版人，編集者，言語学者。広東省の人。国民大学教授，《北平民主日報》編集者をへて，1912年，臨時大統領となった孫文の秘書となり，1920年以後上海(シヤンハイ)商務印書館の編訳所所長。30年同総経理となる。四角号碼(ごうま)検字法と図書分類法を考案。四角号碼は画期的な検字法で，以後日本も含め，漢字辞書の基本的な検索法となった。《王雲五大辞典》《万有文庫》《叢書集成》《万有文庫》などを編集。1949年台湾へ渡り，1958年―1963年国民政府行政院副院長。
