...It is a perennial grass of the Poaceae family that grows in wetlands, and is one of the rare species known only in a few places in Japan and China. It is a rather large herbaceous plant, with stems rising from short rhizomes and reaching a height of 1-1.2m. The leaves are long and linear, 40-70cm long and about 10mm wide, rough overall, gradually becoming longer and sharper at the tips, and thin but hard. From August to October, it produces a large, somewhat sparse panicle at the top of the stem, about 50cm long and 20cm wide. The branches are thin and open obliquely when they bloom, but later stand up along the central axis and produce a few spikelets. ...
