Book of Changes

...There is a theory (Honda Osamu) as to why lizards are associated with the I Ching, that it is because lizards were the totem of the group of divinationists in the Zhou dynasty. Incidentally, the English translation of the I Ching is the Book of Changes. After the I Ching was created and its commentary (called the Ten Wings) was written, the I Ching became the subject of philosophical speculation and continued to stimulate the intellectual history of not only China but also East Asia. However, as Zhu Xi of the Southern Song Dynasty pointed out, the I Ching is originally a book of divination.
