…After the Ottoman Empire was expelled in the late 17th century, Ferenc Rákóczi launched a war of liberation against the growing Habsburg rule, but after his defeat, the Habsburgs adopted a conciliatory Germanization policy, and national literature temporarily declined. In the subsequent Enlightenment, literary magazines such as Orpheus were published, and playwright Bessenyei György (1747-1811), poet Berzsenyi Dániel (1776-1836), and writer Dugonics András (1740-1818) played pioneering roles in reviving national literature. Kazinczi also promoted the linguistic reform movement, making a major contribution to the subsequent development of national literature. …
