Unmei-den

Japanese: 温明殿 - うんめいでん
Unmei-den

The name of a palace in the Heian Palace's inner palace. It can also be read as "Onmeiden." It is located immediately after entering the Senyomon Gate in the center of the east side of the inner palace, and is connected to the Ryokiden Hall to the west by three connecting halls. The main building is covered with cypress bark and has nine bays between the pillars from north to south and two bays from east to west. It faces west and has eaves on all four sides. A horse path one bay wide runs across the center from east to west. The main building on the south side of the horse path was called the kamiza or shinden, and contained a kashikodokoro (a sacred place where a sacred mirror was placed), but after the Kamakura period, this was moved to the Shunkoden Hall to the south. Additionally, Onmeiden housed the Naishidokoro, where female court attendants such as Naishi would attend, and the Naishidokoro Mikagura dance, which began in the 11th century, was held in the gardens of Onmeiden in December.
