Radonezh (English spelling)

Japanese: ラドネシ（英語表記）Radonezh

A medieval Russian city that flourished from the 14th to 16th centuries. It is famous as the retreat of Sergius Radonezhsky, founder of the Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra, one of Russia's leading monasteries. Today, its ruins remain in the village of Gorodok, Moscow Oblast, Russian Federation. The town of Radonezh itself fell into decline after Sergius founded the aforementioned monastery near Radonezh around 1340. [Tatsuya Moriyasu]

14～16世紀に栄えたロシアの中世都市。ロシア有数の修道院トロイツェ･セルギエワ大修道院の創始者セルギー･ラドネシスキーが隠棲した地として著名である。現在ではロシア連邦モスクワ州ゴロドク村に遺跡として残る。セルギーが1340年ころラドネシの近くに上述の修道院を開いたため，ラドネシの町そのものは衰退した。【森安達也】
