Born in the 5th year of the Kyoho era. A native of Edo. He lost his sight at a young age and worked as an acupuncturist. Later he became a student of the blind poet Takano Ran'tei, and was praised as a poet on par with Hattori Nankaku. His disciples compiled a collection of his posthumous writings, "Ransui Iso." He passed away on November 29th, 7th year of the An'ei era. He was 59 years old. His given name was Tomonobu. His pen name was Bunkei. His other pen name was Genpo.
