Montt, Pedro
Born: 1846, Santiago
[Died] August 16, 1910. Bremen Chilean politician. President (in office 1906-10). Son of M. Montt. Studied law, became a member of the House of Representatives in 1876 and Speaker in 1885, and played a leading role in the revolution of 1891. He then went to the United States as an envoy of the Revolutionary Junta, and remained as envoy after the new government was recognized. He lost the presidential election in 1901, but won an overwhelming majority of the votes and was elected president in 1906. He avoided armed conflict with Argentina and worked to promote railway construction and education. He died in Germany while in office.

Died September 20, 1880. Politician and legal scholar from Santiago de Chile. President (in office 1851-61). After studying law at the National Institute, he became an administrative officer in the J. Prieto cabinet, and in 1840 served as a member of the lower house, and as Minister of the Interior and Minister of Justice in the M. Bulnes cabinet. During his presidency, with the cooperation of Interior Minister A. Barras, he worked hard on commerce and industry, railway construction, education promotion, immigration issues, and colonization south of the Biobío River. He implemented good governance, including codifying the law and abolishing inherited estates, and suppressed rebellions in 1851 and 1859. After retiring from office, he became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

[Died] July 4, 1603. Prague. Flemish composer. A master of the late Netherlandish school, he served under Philip II of Spain, Queen Mary of England, Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II, and Rudolf II, and was active in Naples, Rome, London, Vienna, Prague, and other cities. His compositions include masses, motets, chansons, and madrigals.

フランドルの作曲家。後期フランドル派を代表する巨匠でスペインのフェリペ2世,イギリスのメアリー女王,神聖ローマ皇帝マクシミリアン2世,ルドルフ2世に仕え,ナポリ,ローマ,ロンドン,ウィーン,プラハなどの諸都市で活躍した。作品は,ミサ曲,モテト,シャンソン,マドリガルなど多数。
